Nature's Inspiration Movie

http://www.flickspire.com/m/HealthierL433/NaturesInspiration -- Nature's Inspiration Movie: The photographs in this short video are from award-winning photographer, Ken Jenkins, and they are breathtaking. However, this video is much more than beautiful photographs! Peggy Anderson has compiled beautiful quotations from the likes of Emerson, Thoreau, and many others that truly capture the beauty of nature and solitude. Absolute must watch for nature lovers.

The Thief

Foreword: The Thief is a children's story based on drama that takes place in many backyards across the world. The story, based on pictures, is appropriate for children between the age of one and three years old. The idea of the story came to the author while she was experimenting with her rented telephoto lens. The book was first published on February 11, 2014, and got reprinted many times since then.
She comes over the fence, across the neighbor's yard, tip-toeing perilously on tree branches.
She peeks cautiously through the branches; stands up to see if the coast is clear. And waits patiently.
She then slowly climbs down. While climbing down, she carefully checks out some holes to see if the loot can be stacked there.
Victory at last -- the feeder is under my control now. Shoo! off you go...this does not belong to you birds now. THIS IS MINE -- EVERY TEENY-WEENY MORSEL OF SUNFLOWER SEED IS MINE.
But, victory does not last long. Protector of feather-friends and yard is near-at-hand. They come roaring out of the door, galloping fast on their feet, and barking the sweet songs of victory. They go round and round the yard, howling and growling, jumping up and down with the hope that one day such jumps will allow them to soar up into those darned high tree branches and get hold of the thief.
Run! run! run! scamper! scamper! scamper! Climb up the tree fast for dear life. Phew! that was close. Am I high enough from those two $#&****#!!? Yesss!! Good, that I grabbed some more seeds -- all those scampering and climbing surely makes this girl hungry. At least up here in the high I can sit peacefully and enjoy my booty.
Peace at last. All those food has made me sleepy. Let me take some rest for a while before I again walk all the way back to my home. Why do these humans have to cut up the trees and put them in a funny way on the ground! Walking on them is dangerous.
Disclaimer: Hehehe...No, I haven't published this as a book :-P. I have a dream of publishing books one day though. I am linking this with Michelle's wonderful meme -- Nature Notes which she holds every Tuesday. Are there any other meme that I can link with? If you know, please let me know. Thanks.

    1. Thank You :-). A cat would have surely taken a squirrel or too as sometimes those rodent wait for the last minute to run away. But a cat picture would definitely add more spice :-)

    1. Thank You :-). That's why I don't chase them away now -- they also need food.

  6. I think you need a new security team. The two of them couldn't catch a pint-sized intruder! Maybe they can be mall cop dogs but guarding a farm, they are out of their league.

  8. We had a squirrel in our backyard which consistently dug up the plants around our small water feature. My husband took it personally and I never knew when he would spring from his chair with a bellow of rage and run out to chase off the squirrel. It would be much easier on my nerves if we had a dog. Love your two pups.

    1. Susan, your story is really funny :-) -- I enjoyed reading it and imagining the scene -- perhaps you should write a cartoon book about it. Strangely none of these squirrels do anything to our plants -- not even destroy our veggie garden.

  13. I like this story! Although I also like our squirrel baffle that keeps the squirrels off the bird feeder.

    1. Thank You :-). I think of having a baffle but then I allow them to eat because they also need food and with hardly any native species around here, I don't know what they eat and survive.

  14. What a lovely tale - thoroughly enjoyed :) I think you should change the age limit 0-99 years, expand your target audience.
How lucky the birds in my garden are not to have to compete with squirrels - mind you the Magpies and Starlings make up for them.

    1. Awww...Angie, Thank You :-). You again made my day. We also have those Starlings -- but they do not come often.

  15. Very nice! I can see you are getting more familiar with your telephoto lens.
If you have dreams of producing a book I can recommend self publishing, with for example Blurb. Have a look here on the books I have self published. You can get some more ideas by searching for books here, lots of different topics!

  17. Well, I thought it was a fun story for grownups too! Squirrels are fun to watch but they sure can work through a lot of sunflower seeds! Eileen (the comment above this one) has a meme on Saturday mornings called 'Saturday Critters'. You could always link your squirrels there.

  18. This post made me sad a bit. I lost my two protectors of birds a number of years ago and have been thinking of getting two new dogs. We only had two squirrels in the yard when they were alive, now we have so many I can't count them. My Akita actually caught a squirrel mid air. I did feel sorry for the squirrel even though I would like fewer of them in the garden. Nice sequence of photos. Good story telling.

    1. Oh! I am sorry Gardenwalkgardentalk :-(. I know the pain of losing our best friends as I lost one about 10 years back -- the one that I grew up with. I can't imagine what will happen to me the day something will happen to them :-(...these have never caught a squirrel

  20. Wonderful! I don't think squirrels are thieves. They're hungry, too. But my dogs do love chasing them although they'll never catch one. They just keep the squirrels from getting too sassy.

    1. Thank You :-). I know they are hungry and that's why I let them eat :). Only when I want some fun. They have never caught any -- they don't know how to hunt :-) and am I not glad for it as I would have hate to see a squirrel injured or killed.
